I got her answering machine so I left a message last week. I called (818) 964-6000 and was transferred to a lady. Originally Posted by Louisville S /t/1432849/toshiba-hd-dvd-a2ku-error-code-408bc509#post_22796969Īpparently there's only one person working in the "defective disc" department.

I don't have enough free time to test 55 discs from beginning to end. The others I'll test on an "as I watch" basis. I started with the Warners because I heard they were the most prone. They were bought from Amazon and Best Buy. I have pulled the receipts for all four defective discs in case they ask. They all crap out at the same position so I assume they are the discs. Those four I've tested on three different players, all with the latest firmware. 22 have played perfectly from beginning to end, 4 have crapped out with the 408bc509. I had e-mailed them as well, but haven't heard back. She said that lady is the only one handling defective discs and if I don't hear back from her by Wednesday I should call again. I never received a call back so I called today and asked the receptionist if there was anyone else who could help me out. As long as you weed out your bad Warner discs and stay cautious of picking those up without vetting them, a HDDVD collection can be relevant for as long as you want, as the format had a bunch of timeless movies dropped on it in the years it was around.Apparently there's only one person working in the "defective disc" department. The format is definitely worth keeping around and may even be worth it for someone to pick up a decent sized collection dirt cheap. I have two backup players in the closet if one ever dies, and I regularly use my HDDVD player for normal DVDs also. The Thing on HDDVD actually has a unique orange color grading in HD (how it always looked on home video) that the Shout Factory Bluray changed blue and that the Arrow Video bluray slightly changed blue, the HDDVD also has less tampering to the master than Universal's own bluray. Terminator 2 (German Steelbook) looks better than my Lionsgate bluray and is my preferred way to watch the Director's cut. The German HDDVD of Resident Evil Apocolypse has a superior mastering than the official Sony bluray release. The Genius label discs like Harsh Times, Clerks II, Matador, besides being awesome movies, are all out of print on Bluray so those discs are definitely worth keeping around, who knows if they will ever be re-released (Weinstein Co sold).

Twilight Zone: The Movie is hard to find on either format and will probably never be re-released. Equilibrium (Japanese version) looks better than most of the bluray releases (except the Japanese bluray) which have the wrong aspect ratios. Balls of Fury is one title that isn't even on bluray yet from Universal even after all these years. Certain titles still don't have viable options on bluray in my country. I will never be selling my HDDVDs, I think most of my discs still look fantastic and there are several movies I watch regularly (Scanner Darkly, Clerks II, Equilibrium, Balls of Fury, Timecop).
